Hail and Farewell – An Evocation of Gippsland is an autobiographical book about Eagle’s 12 years as a teacher in Gippsland. The names of many local characters were thinly disguised. Pages 146-150 give an account of the 1965 fires, primarily as they were experienced by the people of Bairnsdale. Click on the image below to read the book.
